Darlin’ Deals Review ~ Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-Ray & DVD!

Star Wars

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary advanced copy of  Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-Ray & DVD combo pack in exchange for my honest review. I was not persuaded to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own unless otherwise noted.

Now I realize this might make me automatically ousted from joining any Star Wars fan groups, but I have to start this review by saying I have never seen the original Star Wars films in their entirety. The reason I stated this little secret of mine is for those of you out there wondering if its worth watching the latest installment in the epic saga even though you are not completely familiar with all the characters and back story; my answer to you is YES, watch this one! Of course it would be helpful to really understand who’s who by knowing the origin of certain characters (such as well-known members of the Dark Side like Darth Vader) and a little info on other main characters from the original movies from the 70’s in order to fully appreciate this latest ‘episode’, but the action and intense storyline will have you hooked no matter what your knowledge of Star Wars is prior to watching.

The cinematic journey of Star Wars: The Force Awakens introduces a few new characters to the Star Wars clan such as Kylo Ren from the Dark Side (this character is why you should know a bit about Darth Vader), Finn (a Stormtrooper who has a change of heart) and a new Droid Robot named BB-8.

Throughout the film there are fight scenes, plot twists, and intense character building that will have you on the edge of your seat no matter if you’re a fan of the Dark Side or if you root for the good guys on the Light Side. My husband and 6 year old son were completely glued to the movie the entire 136 minute runtime! Be aware unlike the majority of the Star Wars movies this one does come with a PG-13 rating. This is only the 2nd film in the saga to receive this rating, the other was Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. This stronger rating it is due to sci-fi action violence sequences, as was also the reason for the PG-13 rating of 2005’s Revenge of the Sith. As a fairly protective mother I didn’t find any dialogue or visuals to be inappropriate in the film.
