If having kids has taught me nothing else, its that each generation of children are inherently unique in their trends and fads. I have had a difficult time coming to terms with a lot of the main stream children’s shows and toys, I just don’t really get into them. That being said I have a confession to make.. over the years I have gently persuaded my kids to watch shows from my childhood so that I could enjoy watching the programs with them. Some of my favorites are Curious George which my son and I have watched many a cuddly evening before bed and My Little Pony which has become a staple in my daughter’s cartoon rotation.

Having a daughter that shares in my love of all things colorful and feminine has been so much fun! I am always looking for exciting places to take my Preschool aged little gal. So when I was recently invited to the My Little Pony: The Movie digital release party hosted at Duff’s Cake & Cupcake Decorating Studio in Pasadena (165 South De Lacey Ave. Pasadena, CA 91105) I decided to make it a Mommy & Me afternoon and brought her along with me. The  release party was full of My Little Pony-esque activities such as hair styling with rainbow colored hair extensions, custom cupcake decorating with colored fondant and toppings in every color imaginable, and a photo booth complete with My Little Pony face masks and Pony ears.

While the kids were making cupcakes the bloggers had the opportunity to attend a roundtable discussion with Tara Strong, the talented actress who is responsible for voicing Twilight Sparkle. Tara even stuck around long enough to sign posters and mingle with her fans.

It was such a lovely well-coordinated event, my daughter and I had a fabulous time!

My Little Pony: The Movie  will be released just in time for the holidays, coming on December 19th to Digital format, and the DVD + Blu-Ray version will be available January 9th.

Just in time for the Holiday season Disney has released a 2 part Halloween & Christmas movie – Mickey Mouse Merry & Scary available today on DVD. This Holiday Collection includes; The Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular and Duck the Halls: A Mickey Mouse Christmas Special. Also included are 5 Bonus Shorts with a Halloween theme.

The total runtime for this set is just 43 minutes so its sure to keep the attention of your little ones. One of the unique attributes of this movie is the fact that although it is a new release it features the old fashioned style Disney characters! All the beloved pals are drawn in their original format.

Mickey Scary

Both of my children loved this movie, which is rare due to the fact that my son is almost 8 years old and my daughter is 3, usually there is a lot of bickering about the type of movie or shows that they watch together. I heard them laughing throughout the entire movie and they even managed to sit still for the entire thing!

Mickey Mouse Merry & Scary would make a great Halloween gift to get in the holiday spirit or you could buy it for a stocking stuffer and watch it on Christmas day after the kiddos have opened all their gifts :)

Summertime means children are repeatedly telling their parents, “I’m bored.” Well right around the 5 millionth time I heard that phrase uttered in my home I was offered the Disney Junior movie, Minnie’s Happy Helpers, to review and I was thrilled to have a movie to entertain the kiddos so that I could have a few moments of peace and quiet (or 66 minutes to be exact).

My youngest just turned 3 years old and she is enamored with all things Disney so needless to say this new movie made her day! My daughter loved the episode about ‘babysitting’ an egg 😉 This new DVD contains 7 full length episodes and will release for purchase to the public on July 25th, 2017.

Darlin’ Deals Review ~ Finding Dory on Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital HD!

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary advanced copy of Finding Dory Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital Copy combo pack in exchange for my honest review. I was not persuaded to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own unless otherwise noted.

If you fell in love with with the small-finned little clown fish Nemo and his loveable (and very forgetful) pal Dory back in 2003 when Finding Nemo hit theatres, be prepared to reignite your emotions for another deep sea adventure in Finding Dory.

The whole crew is back together for another journey through the ocean in the highly anticipated sequel. This movie still follows a plot line of looking for lost fish, but this time its Dory’s parents that must be found. With tons of tear jerking flashbacks of adorable baby Dory’s childhood and hilarious misadventures through the local Aquarium, with all new sea pals such as Hank the Septopus, you’ll cry and laugh throughout this film. My favorite scenes took place at the Aquarium with laugh out loud moments at every turn. This movie is sure to be a crowd pleaser and all ages can enjoy it! My 2 year old loved the scenes with ‘tiny Dory’, my 7 year old belly-achingly laughed at the funny seals that helped Nemo, Marlon, and Dory outside the Aquarium, and we all rooted for Dory to be reunited with her parents!

You can purchase Finding Dory Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital Copy Combo Pack currently priced at  just $15! *Amazon pricing can change at anytime.

HIDDEN GEMS found in this movie:

NOSTALGIC WHEELS – The truck that is featured late in the movie features a logo from the 1986 short “Luxo, Jr.” produced by Pixar and directed by John Lasseter. The short’s success helped launch the studio, and the image of the desk lamp appears in Pixar’s iconic logo today.

  • The license plate on the truck sports A113, which is reminiscent of the CalArts classroom for first-year graphic design and character animation where many of the artists and animators at Pixar began to build their craft.
  • Sets Art Director Don Shank’s name can be seen in the truck’s grill.

TAG IT – The tags donned by the lazy sea lions snoozing outside the Marine Life Institute together bear the iconic A113. While Rudder’s tag reads A1, Fluke’s says 13.

FIELD TRIP – Riley from 2015’s “Inside Out” appears in a group of kids touring the Marine Life Institute. She is clearly featured in a frame with Dory.

MAP IT – The registration number for the zodiac boat that picks up Dory in the bay outside the Marine Life Institute is PA1200, which represents Pixar’s address: 1200 Park Avenue.

Darlin’ Deals Review ~ Disney’s Alice Through The Looking Glass!

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary advanced copy of Alice Through the Looking Glass on Blu-Ray & DVD combo pack in exchange for my honest review. I was not persuaded to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own unless otherwise noted.

This month I had the pleasure of watching the delightfully-mad movie Alice Through the Looking Glass before its release date. Having not watched this film when it was in theatres I was overjoyed at this opportunity.

For those who grew up with Disney’s animated version of Alice as a staple in their video collection, you may remember the a simple girl who was always daydreaming. The Alice of the modern tale is a little bit more of a tomboy and far more adventurous, but a daydreamer nevertheless. In this sequel to 2010’s rendition of Alice in Wonderland, you’ll find that Alice Through the Looking Glass has all the characters (and same actors!) that you fell in love with.

This fairytale not only whisks you away to a colorful and cuckoo Wonderland, or Underland as the native residents refer to it, but you are also taken on a delightful journey through time. As the storyline unfolds you learn that Alice must save the Hatter from going completely mad by traveling through time to prevent the death of his family, the Hightopps.

My personal favorite scenes took place in the realm of Time that Alice ventures into. The quirky and imaginative twist on what or should I say who ‘Time’ is really made for an enjoyable plotline. I’m sure you will enjoy this element to the film as well! One particular thing that I feel this movie lacked was character building. It felt as though the viewers were expected to remember the characters from the previous film and there was no additional depth added to the history of any characters, other than the Hatter.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is currently available on Blu-Ray & DVD which includes a Digital Copy as well.

Here’s a fun clip of the creation of the Hatter’s costume from the movie:

Darlin’ Deals Review ~ Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-Ray & DVD!

Star Wars

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary advanced copy of  Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-Ray & DVD combo pack in exchange for my honest review. I was not persuaded to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own unless otherwise noted.

Now I realize this might make me automatically ousted from joining any Star Wars fan groups, but I have to start this review by saying I have never seen the original Star Wars films in their entirety. The reason I stated this little secret of mine is for those of you out there wondering if its worth watching the latest installment in the epic saga even though you are not completely familiar with all the characters and back story; my answer to you is YES, watch this one! Of course it would be helpful to really understand who’s who by knowing the origin of certain characters (such as well-known members of the Dark Side like Darth Vader) and a little info on other main characters from the original movies from the 70’s in order to fully appreciate this latest ‘episode’, but the action and intense storyline will have you hooked no matter what your knowledge of Star Wars is prior to watching.

The cinematic journey of Star Wars: The Force Awakens introduces a few new characters to the Star Wars clan such as Kylo Ren from the Dark Side (this character is why you should know a bit about Darth Vader), Finn (a Stormtrooper who has a change of heart) and a new Droid Robot named BB-8.

Throughout the film there are fight scenes, plot twists, and intense character building that will have you on the edge of your seat no matter if you’re a fan of the Dark Side or if you root for the good guys on the Light Side. My husband and 6 year old son were completely glued to the movie the entire 136 minute runtime! Be aware unlike the majority of the Star Wars movies this one does come with a PG-13 rating. This is only the 2nd film in the saga to receive this rating, the other was Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. This stronger rating it is due to sci-fi action violence sequences, as was also the reason for the PG-13 rating of 2005’s Revenge of the Sith. As a fairly protective mother I didn’t find any dialogue or visuals to be inappropriate in the film.

Good Dinosaur

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary advanced copy of  the The Good Dinosaur on Blu-Ray & DVD in exchange for my honest review. I was not persuaded to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own unless otherwise noted.

If your little one has a fascination with Dinos you’ll want to check out one of Disney’s newest films to arrive on Blu-Ray & DVD, The Good Dinosaur. This heartwarming tale features a dinosaur named Arlo and his unlikely pal – a human boy named Spot. Yep, this story takes on the often pondered idea of what life would be like if dinosaurs never became extinct. Would they become man’s new best friend? Disney sure seems to think so!

This movie will have you laughing, cheering, and as is typical with most of Disney’s tales you will need a box of tissues too. You are sure to fall in love with the bond between caveboy Spot and his Apatosaurus friend Arlo. This sweet movie is great for all ages and appeals to both boys & girls whether they are dinosaur fanatics or not 😉

With a runtime of just 94 minutes its the perfect length to keep (most) kids’ attention. There are also some great bonus features too!

Darlin’ Deals Review ~ The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar DVD!

Lion Guard

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary advanced copy of  the Lion Guard: Return of the Roar DVD in exchange for my honest review. I was not persuaded to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own unless otherwise noted.

One of my favorite things about Disney movies is how they transcend the age barrier and appeal to audiences both young and old. As a child I enjoyed the delightful movie The Lion King with its award-winning songs and loveable animal cast. To continue the tale of Simba and his pal Nala (who is now his Lion mate) Disney introduces The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar.

This new movie introduces Kion, who is the second-born cub of Simba and Nala. Kion takes on the role of leader of “The Lion Guard,” which in short is a group of animals whose job is to preserve the Pride Lands. There are many great lessons about responsibility along the way and of course lots of fun-filled laughable scenes.

With a much shorter runtime than most Disney films (just 44 minutes) the Lion Guard will keep your child’s attention from start to finish! My 6 year old son enjoyed the movie, but he prefers longer storylines at this age so he was slightly disappointed when it was over in less than an hour. However if you have a child under age 5 that loves Disney shows and movies The Lion Guard is the perfect length to keep your little one entertained.

You can pre-order your copy of this new movie now, and you’ll receive the DVD when it officially releases on February 23rd.

Darlin’ Deals Review ~ The Land Before Time: Journey of the Brave DVD!

Land Before Time

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary advanced copy of The Land Before Time: Journey of the Brave DVD in exchange for my honest review. I was not persuaded to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own unless otherwise noted.

As a child one of the most memorable movies for me was the original The Land Before Time film that released in 1988 when I was just 5 years old. I remember grinning ear-to-ear as I watched Littlefoot and all his dino pals (Cera, Spiky, Ducky, and Petrie) go on the adventure of a lifetime. Now 28 years later I had the privilege of receiving an advanced copy of the latest movie, The Land Before Time: Journey of the Brave.

This newest film features the voice talents of Damon Wayans and Reba McIntire and even includes a new song performed by Reba! This movie is sure to excite both young and old. Whether you are just introducing your children to this prehistoric cartoon movie series or if you are familiar with all of the 13 previous movies in this fun dino-saga to date, this movie will delight the whole family. As the adventure unfolds you will laugh, sing, and cheer as Littlefoot realizes he will get to see his father Bron who will be returning from the Great Valley.

To get you Darlins excited about the release exclusively available at Walmart, here is a clip from Journey of the Brave.
